After a promising start, but ultimately back to back losses against the Central Division champion Toledo Walleye, the Kalamazoo Wings have made things much more interesting with wins in its own home games to tie the series at 2-2.
Down 4-1 just 28:34 minutes into the series, the Wings battled back and Charlie Vasaturo’s goal 3:36 into the final period made it a one goal game, the Walleye ultimately holding on to the 4-3 edge despite a 30-22 edge in shots by the Wings.
Game two saw the Walleye extend its lead in the series with a 4-1 win, again scoring three in the first and another in the second before Peter Schneider managed to shatter the shutout bid of Jake Paterson with his goal 2:17 from the final buzzer.
After limited to four goals in Toledo, the Wings exploded for 14 goals on home ice with wins of 6-4 and 8-5 to pull even in the set.
Goaltenders have been victimized early and often in this series so far by the likes of Kyle Bonis who has already notched five goals and four assists in the series for the Walleye while Shane Berschbach has a goal and six helpers, Tyson Spink has collected to goals and five set ups. ECHL Rookie of the Year and twin brother to Tyson, Tylor Spink has two goals and five assists.
Cameron Darcy, with two goals and five assists and Peter Schneider who has five goals and a couple of assists already, lead the Wings into game five, along with Eric Kattelus and Tanner Sorenson with five set ups apiece – Kattelus also scoring one.
Game five goes Friday in Toledo and teams will reconvene in Kalamazoo Sunday afternoon. If needed, the seventh and deciding game will be played Tuesday in Toledo.
