Quick start not enough for Fuel

The Indy Fuel missed a chance to move a little closer to clinching a playoff spot in the ECHL’s Eastern Division Wednesday (May 26) dropping a 5-1 decision at WesBanco Arena against the host Wheeling Nailers

Spencer Watson (‘95/London, Ont.) had the Fuel up with the only goal of the first period but the Nailers grabbed control with three unanswered second period goals and two more in the final 20-minutes.

The Fuel’s tenuous grip on third place in the division was hampered with the loss dropping the team to 33-23-7-0 in the standings, still third in the Conference, but just two points up on sixth place.

The Nailers boosted its record to 21-34-6-1 but they remain a distant seventh, the only team in the East Conference out of playoff contention.

Next game for the Fuel will be at Indiana Farmers Coliseum Friday (May 28) against the Fort Wayne Komets.
