Post number 500 — how’s that for a milestone?

A couple of years ago, I began this blog/website hoping to one day turn it into the voice of hockey in the American Midwest.

There is still a million miles to travel in terms of getting it to where I want it to be. But I remember when I started thinking this site mostly needs to have some copy on it. Something people can see when they come here.

Well, this blog is my 500th entry on this site and after so many struggles and seemingly always trying to ‘catch up’ during the season, this is something I am genuinely proud of. The entries range from a few paragraphs to multiple pages of type (pages as it on a word document where most of these items start). But collectively they represent days and hours a labor of love.

As of this moment, there is only one Midwest-based hockey team remaining in post season play and that is the Grand Rapids Griffins, top minor league affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings. Having defeated the San Jose Barracudas in the West Conference championship series the Griffs will kick off the Calder Cup Championship series on Friday at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids against the Syracuse Crunch.

That of course will be followed by a busy summer…at least the first half. There is never a shortage of things to write about as things seem to happen quickly – additions and subtractions as far as teams and then the release of schedule, signing of players. Next thing you know teams are in training camp. Heck, the USHL selection camps are just days away.

The summer is different as you have to turn over a few more rocks to find the stories, but that is a fun challenge.

I have dozens of stories to come in the days ahead as I try to stay on top of it now that I have caught up to the action.

Hopefully, my next personal blog comes sooner than my 1000th entry, but man, how great will that one be.
