Midwest Hockey previews beginning next week

In an earlier blog, I mentioned that August is the longest month of the summer for hockey fans. That doesn’t mean it’s not a busy month.

I am going to make a semi-official jump into the 2017-18 waters over the next few weeks with league previews for the junior leagues that fall under the Midwest Hockey umbrella. I am not sure exactly how in depth I can go on the previews other than highlighting last season and recent history while at the same time updating any changes that affect the Midwest and giving an idea of when the teams will be dropping the puck.

I am hoping to do the three Tier 3 leagues that involve the American Midwest (USPHL Midwest Premier, NA3HL and WSHL) next week and if there is still time, I will start the three Tier 2 Leagues (NAHL, SIJHL, NOJHL) that involved Midwest based teams and wrap them up the following week. Late in the week I will add the Tier I leagues (USHL, OHL) carrying into the Labor Day weekend with at least a couple of leagues facing off on a new season right after that.

One the things I want to put together is a list of Showcase tournaments for the various leagues as this is a chance generally to see all of the teams at one time and in one spot. Set up for college scouts, these events are perfect for fans wanting to get a good cross-section of what’s out there leading into the season as well.

Down the road

After completing a look at Junior, I will take a stab at finally getting College feet wet. I have not really given any time to College since starting this site three years ago and I am going to try to get a look at what’s out there in the early weeks of September. Of course, NHL training camps will be underway at the same time with Pro team previews following.

So here we go, Welcome to the 2017-18 hockey season folks. If you’re like me, you will love every second of it.
