Eagles drop NOJHL decision at Elliot Lake

The Soo Eagles failed to score until the final minute on Friday (Sept. 25) at the Centennial Arena in Elliot Lake, but that was almost enough to force overtime in is Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest against the host Elliot Lake Wildcats.

But the Wildcats were able to run out the clock and hold on for a 2-1 edge in the first half of a home and away weekend for the two teams.

Evan Ketner, 19, from Washington, MI scored a  powerplay goal with 12 seconds to play salvaging some consolation in denying a shutout to Aaron Mackay, 18, from Alberta who made 20 previous stops in goal for the Wildcats. Also it added at least a little interest to a final faceoff with 12 ticks to work with.

Artur Terchiyev, 16, from Ukraine and Alec MacKenzie, 19, from Ontario scored the Wildcat goals, one in each of the first two periods.

Jack Hickey, 20, from Hinsdale, IL made 23 saves in goal for the Eagles.

The same two teams are scheduled to meet again at Pullar Stadium in Sault Ste. Marie, MI tomorrow night.
