Eagles battle Rock to a draw
Pucker up sis.
The Soo Eagles picked up a rare tie, playing the Timmins Rock to a 1-1 draw through 60 minutes of regulation and a pair of five-minute overtime segments Saturday (Sept. 19) at Pullar Stadium in Sault Ste. Marie, MI.
With the addition of a second overtime segment this season and 3-on-3 play in effect during that, the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League has eliminated the shootout. The Eagles and Rock were the first teams to settle for the draw this season.
Both goals came in the second period, Tristan Salesse 19, from Ontario getting the Rock on the board 14:14 into the period before, Evan Ketner, 19, from Washington, MI pulled the Eagles level with a powerplay tally 2:43 later.
Jack Hickey, 20, from Hinsdale, IL was the workhorse in this one, handling all but one of the 54 shots he faced in goal for the Eagles. Logan Ferrington, 20, from Ontario turned aside 29 on the other side of the pond.
The tie wrapped up a three point weekend for the Eagles, erasing an 0-2 start to the season from the previous weekend. On Friday, (Sept. 25,) the Eagles will be at Elliot Lake to play the Wildcats with a return match at Pullar Stadium the following night.
